We love this Magic Torch craft! This optical illusion creates the impression that you are lighting up a picture with a torch. It’s simple, but ridiculously satisfying.
We decided to draw an aquarium scene, but you can draw anything that comes to mind. Whether that's a desert landscape, a view of Earth from outer space - or maybe even a theatre stage - the only limit is your imagination!
You will need:
Side opening A4 clear plastic sleeve
Sharpies, or other permanent markers in different colours
A4 Sheet of black paper
A4 Sheet of white card
Scissors
A Ruler
Got everything? Let's get started!
First, draw a picture on the front of your plastic sleeve. It can be of whatever your heart desires, just make sure that the picture is in landscape orientation!
Once your picture is complete, slide the sheet of black paper into the sleeve and set it aside.
Using your ruler, draw a torch with a broad light beam coming out of it, onto the piece of white card.
Colour in your torch and cut it out (keeping the beam plain white).
Now, slide the torch inside the plastic sleeve, on top of the black paper.
As you move the torch around, it will appear to "light up" your picture!
